Fifth in the Melbourne Cup two years ago, mare Profound Beauty is owned by the Swiss-born Walter Haefner, who was listed by Forbes as the world’s oldest billionaire after he turned 100 last month.
Haefner owns Ireland’s famed Moyglare Stud Farm, which has bred winners of Group I races around the world — among them the 2002 Melbourne Cup winner Media Puzzle, ridden by Damien Oliver just days after the death of his brother Jason in a trackwork fall.
Haefner, who made his fortune after recognising early on the impact that computers could have on the automobile industry, will be represented in Australia by his daughter, Eva Maria, who will arrive in Melbourne today.
